2 Years Later: Revisiting Our MLB Prospect Predictions for 2026 (2026)

It's time to revisit our bold predictions from two years ago and see how they fared. We predicted the top prospect for each team in 2026, and now it's time to review our accuracy. But here's the twist: it's not as simple as a right or wrong answer.

The original article (https://www.mlb.com/milb/news/predicting-each-team-s-top-prospect-in-2026) made some daring forecasts, and while some were spot-on, others missed the mark. Out of 30 teams, 15 had their top prospect change due to various factors like trades, graduations, and draft picks. But even with these changes, we managed to hit a solid .400 average, a feat not achieved since Ted Williams in 1941.

Let's dive into the details, starting with the American League East:

Blue Jays: We predicted Arjun Nimmala, but Trey Yesavage, a 2023 first-round pick, has taken the spotlight. Nimmala is still a promising shortstop with power potential, but Yesavage's impressive performance earned him the top spot.

Orioles: Enrique Bradfield Jr. was our pick, but Samuel Basallo, a catcher/first baseman, has risen to the top. Bradfield's speed and defense are elite, but Basallo's all-around skills secured his position.

Rays: Xavier Isaac, known for his raw power, was our choice. However, Carson Williams, a shortstop with a promising future, is now the top prospect.

Red Sox: Miguel Bleis, a four-plus-tool player, was our selection. Payton Tolle, a left-handed pitcher, has taken over, showcasing his talent.

Yankees: Roderick Arias, a highly-touted international signing, was our prediction. George Lombard Jr., an infielder, has replaced him due to Arias' struggles.

Moving to the American League Central:

Guardians: Ralphy Velazquez, a top first-base prospect, was our choice. Travis Bazzana, the 2024 first overall pick and an exceptional second baseman, has surpassed him.

Royals: Blake Mitchell, a catcher, was our pick. Carter Jensen, another catcher, has taken the top spot after his rise to the Majors.

Tigers: Max Clark, an outfielder with great potential, was our prediction. Kevin McGonigle, a shortstop with an incredible hit tool, has narrowly taken the lead.

Twins: Walker Jenkins, an outfielder, was our choice. Despite injuries, Jenkins remains a top prospect, proving our prediction accurate.

White Sox: Noah Schultz, a left-handed pitcher, was our pick. Braden Montgomery, an outfielder with a wicked slider, has emerged as the top prospect.

In the American League West:

Angels: Nelson Rada, an outfielder, was our prediction. Tyler Bremner, a right-handed pitcher, is now the top prospect, but Rada is still a promising talent.

Astros: Luis Baez, an outfielder with impressive bat speed, was our choice. Kevin Alvarez, a young Kyle Tucker-like player, has taken his place due to Baez's struggles.

A's: Myles Naylor, a third baseman, was our pick. Leo De Vries, a talented shortstop, was traded to the A's, but his performance has been underwhelming.

Mariners: Colt Emerson, a top pick in 2023, was our prediction. Emerson, a pure hitter and terrific shortstop, has lived up to the hype.

Rangers: Sebastian Walcott, a highly-rated shortstop, was our choice. Walcott, despite a recent injury, remains a top prospect.

Now, onto the National League East:

Braves: Jose Perdomo, a highly-paid international signing, was our pick. Cam Caminiti, a left-handed pitcher, has taken over due to Perdomo's health issues.

Marlins: Noble Meyer, a right-handed pitcher, was our prediction. Thomas White, a left-handed pitcher, has proven to be the better choice.

Mets: Ryan Clifford, an outfielder/first baseman, was our selection. Nolan McLean, a right-handed pitcher, has emerged as a top prospect, along with other talented players.

Nationals: Cristhian Vaquero, an outfielder with great speed, was our choice. Eli Willits, a shortstop, has taken the top spot, but Vaquero is still in the mix.

Phillies: Starlyn Caba, a shortstop, was our pick. Aidan Miller, another shortstop, has taken over, but Caba remains a top defensive talent.

In the National League Central:

Brewers: Yophery Rodriguez, an outfielder, was our prediction. Jesús Made, a shortstop/second baseman, has risen to the top, resembling a previous successful signing.

Cardinals: Leonardo Bernal, a catcher, was our choice. JJ Wetherholt, an infielder, has surpassed him due to Bernal's inconsistent offense.

Cubs: Moisés Ballesteros, a catcher/first baseman, was our pick. Ballesteros, a gifted hitter, has proven us right, but questions about his catching remain.

Pirates: Lonnie White, an outfielder, was our prediction. Konnor Griffin, a shortstop/outfielder, has taken over, showcasing his potential.

Reds: Ricardo Cabrera, a shortstop, was our choice. Sal Stewart, an infielder, has replaced him due to Cabrera's injury and position change.

Finally, the National League West:

D-backs: Druw Jones, an outfielder, was our prediction. Ryan Waldschmidt, another outfielder, has taken the top spot, but Jones' defensive skills keep him in the mix.

Dodgers: Josue De Paula, an outfielder, was our pick. De Paula, a young and talented hitter, has lived up to the hype, drawing comparisons to Yordan Alvarez.

Giants: Bryce Eldridge, an outfielder/right-handed pitcher, was our choice. Eldridge, now a full-time first baseman, is the best power prospect in the game.

Padres: Leo De Vries, a shortstop, was our prediction. Kruz Schoolcraft, a left-handed pitcher, has taken over, but De Vries would still be the top prospect if he remained.

Rockies: Chase Dollander, a right-handed pitcher, was our pick. Ethan Holliday, a shortstop, has replaced him, but Dollander's graduation was predicted.

So, there you have it! Our predictions were a mixed bag, with some hits and misses. But the beauty of sports is that anything can happen, and these young talents have the potential to surprise us all. What do you think about our predictions? Did we get it right, or did we miss the mark? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned for more baseball insights!
